Bird Park & Gardens
We have over 160 species of bird from around the world, from the diminutive Australian finches to the enormous Ostrich from Africa. Our Humboldt penguins are always keen to show off their underwater flying skills during the public feeds and you can feed many of our birds with the special feed available to buy.
Over 100 bird enclosures are set in our landscaped grounds, covering a total of 26 acres – more than enough to fill your day – including the large walkthrough Sea Shore Walk aviary with nesting Hammerkop, waders and other coastal species, enjoying the soothing sound and motion of waves splashing up the shoreline.
Many of our birds are threatened in the wild and are part of international breeding programmes to ensure the survival of their species. We do also have a number of more familiar species which people will recognise from storybooks or as pets. We aim to have something to interest everyone, from photographers and artists, school groups and visitors just wanting to have a good day out seeing some beautiful birds in beautiful surroundings. It is so good, even the wild herons have decided to nest within the park – an added attraction to see these magnificent native birds close up.
A full 26 acres of parkland provides the perfect setting for your day out. The forest backdrop ensures a close link to nature and our more mature trees supply the framework for our more formal landscaping.
From the first snowdrops of spring to the full colour of summer merging into the fungi and the foliage and barks of autumn and winter, there is always plenty to provide interest.
The gardens are constantly being kept up-to-date with selected areas chosen for re-landscaping such as our willow maze, the topiary garden, shrub and herbaceous borders, herb beds, cottage gardens and lawns, bulbs and colourful containers.
