Creating a BIAZA Reserve in the Atlantic Forests of Brazil
with World Land Trust

BIAZA is working with the World Land Trust (WLT) and its partner organisation REGUA to create a reserve in the Atlantic forest of Brazil - one of the world’s great biodiversity hotspots.
The Atlantic rainforests are among the most threatened in the world due to habitat destruction and fragmentation. Because of their high levels of biodiversity and species endemism it is vital that we save what is left and restore as much lost habitat as possible.
The proposed BIAZA Reserve of 1500 ha is situated between the REGUA reserve and the Rio de Janeiro Primatology Centre, only 80 km outside the bustling city of Rio de Janeiro.
BIAZA members and the WLT are working together to raise £260,000 over 3 years to purchase the land and create the reserve.

Toco ToucanBirdworld is one of about 20 BIAZA members who have pledged their support towards this conservation project. Within the park there are several species that are indigenous to the Atlantic Rainforest region and it is therefore a very appropriate link.
If you want to find out which the species are then why not join in with our Birdworld Conservation Trail today! For a small donation you can collect a trail sheet from the main entrance and discover for yourselves where the species are located.
In addition to fund raising around the park Birdworld is also organising several different sponsored events and raffles, which have been supported by other local businesses and attractions - perhaps your company would like to get involved?
What else can you do to help? You are already helping by enjoying your visit today. Please help us do more by spreading the word and telling your friends about Birdworld.
If you would like to make a donation to our conservation project in Brazil, please visit the information desk at the main entrance/exit area.

We would like to thank volunteer help from:

A Waterfall in the Guapi Acu ReserveREGUA is the Brazilian partner of the WLT and their current reserve of 6,000 ha protects one of the largest remaining fragments of Atlantic Rainforest, and includes habitats that range from high forests to lowland wetlands. As well as land purchase and protection REGUA’s other activities include forest restoration, species reintroductions, biodiversity monitoring and community outreach programmes. Regua Website

By supporting this project, we at Birdworld aim to meet our conservation goals and will be contributing towards the preservation of one of the last great wildlife strongholds. Several species at Birdworld are native to the Atlantic Rainforests of Brazil and form part of our conservation trail.
With your help we aim to make a difference.
