£50,000 grant helps Birdworld launch two new immersive experiences

Birdworld is experiencing its most flamboyant February yet with the launch of two new areas, celebrating the Park’s graceful wading birds and iconic pink flamingos.

Families and bird-lovers alike can observe a stunning variety of species at Wetland Waders. There, guests can observe spoonbills, ibis, and a variety of ducks using their unique beaks to feed from shallow and deep waters. Meanwhile, graceful terns soar and swoop above, creating a truly immersive experience.

Leading to this new area from the Park's entrance is an installation created in collaboration with The Farnham Pottery. The family-run business has crafted a series of stunning clay tiles featuring enlarged imprints of wetland bird footprints. This tactile display invites visitors to explore the textures and intricate details of four wetland bird species, fostering a deeper connection with nature through the sense of touch.

Following this, guests can head to the Pink Room where they can uncover fun flamingo facts and learn how these iconic birds get their rosy hue. The walkthrough continues outside to an enchanting, seasonal pink garden, home to Birdworld’s popular flamingo flock in their newly developed natural habitat.

The new areas have been updated with the aid of a £50,000 grant from East Hampshire District Council (EHDC). This funding is part of the Rural England Prosperity Fund, administered by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) on behalf of the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG).

Highlights include redesigned entrances, featuring automatic doors and enhanced accessibility as well as 3D printed features throughout the Park.

As part of this grant, and following close consultation with the diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI) consultancy IAMPOSSIBLE, Birdworld has strengthened its commitment to a more accessible future by introducing several new features to ensure the attraction is inclusive for all visitors.

Cllr Rob Mocatta, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Prosperity and East Hampshire District Council (EHDC) said: "We are delighted to provide Birdworld with this grant from the Rural England Prosperity Fund, which has been instrumental in bringing these fantastic new areas to life.

“This funding aims to support projects that revitalise rural spaces, enhance accessibility, and create engaging experiences for local communities. Birdworld is a wonderful example of how this funding can help organisations make a real difference, ensuring inclusivity while celebrating nature."

James Robson Birdworld General Manager said: "We are kickstarting the year in true flamboyant style with the exciting launch of Wetland Waders and Flamboyant Flamingos. These beloved species are hugely popular part of our collection, and we delighted to showcase these fabulous birds in an environment that’s both natural and engaging to our guests.

“The new areas mark just the start of a big year for Birdworld. With major developments taking shape over the coming months, we are looking forwarding to unveiling our brand-new indoor and outdoor play areas, set to open this summer and autumn, along with accessible features that consider the diversity of our guests.”
