Flamingos are social birds that live in large noisy flocks. In the wild they can be found living close to warm lakes and estuaries, where they feed. Their long curved necks and downward facing bills have evolved to allow them to filter through shallow water and feed on small invertebrates, crustaceans and algae.
Birdworld’s fabulous colony of Greater Flamingos joined us in 2011, when Flamingo Cove was officially opened. Since then, our Greater Flamingo colony have made themselves right at home, successfully hatching and rearing their very own flamingo chicks during their time here. Our Chilean Flamingo flock joined us later in 2019.
